Volkswagen ID.5 E SUV-coupé gains two well-equipped Style trims, offering value and variety to model range

“The Volkswagen ID.5 has been bestowed with an additional trim level, available across all three of its powertrain variants. The ID.5 Style serves as the new entry-level derivative for the Pro, Pro Performance and GTX, starting at £49,735 for the 174 PS ID.5 Style Pro, and offers a comprehensive equipment list alongside a boost in value for the elegantly-styled, all-electric SUV-coupé.

“The ID.5 Style expands the model’s trim line-up to five, and sits beneath the ID.5 Tech and ID.5 Max, while the ID.5 GTX Style slots in before the ID.5 GTX Max, as the entry-level model fitted with the GTX powertrain.

“The Style follows the rest of the ID.5 range in offering a compelling equipment package, and as the entry-level model, leaves only a few items to be optionally specified. These include the energy efficient heat pump (£1,050); 3-pin mains charging cable (£190); Trailer Hitch (£890); and, over the other ID.5 models, the Infotainment Package Plus (£1,350), which adds the acclaimed augmented reality head-up display, as well as a Dynaudio digital sound package and subwoofer. A number of alternative alloy wheel designs and a vibrant array of paint colours can also be specified optionally, over the model’s standard Moonstone Grey paint and attractive 19-inch ‘Hamar’ wheels.

“It is not just the ID.5’s equipment list, battery and motor that set it apart, either — the innate qualities of Volkswagen’s ID. family provide benefits beyond luxury and technology. These include the dedicated MEB electric vehicle platform that enables a compact footprint for the eye-catching ID.5 relative to its expansive interior space; the capability to receive software updates, ensuring the user benefits from the latest improvements; a network of customer-focused retailers with product experts on hand for any query; and dependability assured by the Volkswagen roundels front and rear.”

“Phihong launches Zerova to deliver flexible EV charging solutions to support accelerated electric rollout.”

“The EV market is booming and, in 2021, electric car sales more than doubled to 6.6 million, representing close to 9% of the global car market and more than tripling their market share from two years earlier[1]. By 2035, it is expected that 100% of new cars sold in Europe will be electric[2]. However, a key challenge is ensuring that the right infrastructure is in place to address a continuously evolving market. Charging availability and simplicity, as well as real time information and safety are key parameters to achieving EV drivers’ satisfaction.

“New specialist EV charging company launched at EVS35 to meet global market needs for flexible charging solutions. Products based on proven technology already trusted and used by Audi, Jaguar and Shell. New range of solutions includes portable chargers, high-power charging equipment above 360KW, and management platforms.”

“‘Through this collaboration, we are connecting our technical experts with NECA’s network of thousands of electrical contractors, who are key partners that ensure connected, software-enabled charging solutions are installed proficiently in communities across the country,’ said Anthony Harrison, senior director of North American policy for ChargePoint. ‘Together with NECA, ChargePoint is ensuring electrical contractors have the technical expertise needed to further accelerate deployment of EV charging infrastructure and enable charging everywhere drivers live, work, and play.’”

UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure selects Siemens tech to power nation’s electric vehicle charging corridor

“The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure selected for a nationwide network of ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers which will help reduce carbon emissions, boost adoption of EVs by addressing so-called range anxiety, and lay the groundwork for a more connected and sustainable transportation system.

“Ten Siemens Sicharge D 160 kW ultra-fast chargers will be installed on the highways in Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. To meet the changing market demands, the chargers have a scalable power up to 300 kW and can be expanded with additional external dispensers for up to two additional charging cables. All are cloud-connected devices which allows operators to monitor and manage the chargers remotely.”

“This project in the UAE continues the success story of our public fast charger Sicharge D. With a peak efficiency of 96 per cent, it is one of the most efficient high-power DC chargers currently available,” said Birgit Dargel, Vice President Sales eMobility at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, adding: “Its communication ability with the cloud provides operators with real-time information and flexibility to manage their charging network. Its intuitive, height adjustable 24′ touch screen display as well as its elegant appearance guarantees a great user experience.”

Sono Motors and CHEREAU sign contract to enter the market for solar-powered refrigerated trailers

“Sono Motors, the company that aims to revolutionize the future of solar-powered transport, is expanding its solar business by entering the growing refrigerated trailer market with its proprietary Sono Solar Technology, to further reduce global fossil fuel emissions. The company signed a purchase contract with The Reefer Group, an international leader in refrigerated bodies, extending the number of total partners of Sono Motors’ Solar business unit to more than 17 globally. As part of this collaboration, the companies will build a first trailer vehicle with the Reefer Group’s French subsidiary CHEREAU S.A.S. for extensive testing to further evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of integrating a customized solar solution for a high volume series vehicle. The solar integration will provide the trailer’s cooling unit with an additional 9.8 kW peak, offering possible fuel savings of approximately 3,400 liters (up to 8,475 under peak conditions) and providing the potential to reduce the local CO2 emissions by approximately 9 tonnes per year per vehicle compared to trailers with diesel-powered cooling units.*”

BrightDrop acquires AI software from startup Marain

Electric vans can slash a commercial fleet’s maintenance and repair costs. Here’s how.

“Perhaps the most well-known benefit of switching to an electric vehicle is the environmental impact due to the elimination of tailpipe emissions compared to an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, but what isn’t as obvious is that they can also be less expensive over the operating lifecycle. Why? For starters, we tend to focus on fuel prices, yet one thing that often gets overlooked is the reduced maintenance costs electric vehicles can offer. The U.S. Government’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy estimates that scheduled maintenance costs for light-duty battery electric vehicles are about 6 cents per mile, compared to 10 cents per mile for a conventional vehicle. Someone buying a passenger car for private use is less likely to worry about maintenance, but for large fleet managers these cost savings can be meaningful over time.

“Another costly issue for fleets is unscheduled repairs caused by breakdowns. According to a study reported in ChargedFleet.com, unplanned repair costs for electric commercial vans are on average 22 percent lower compared to internal combustion engine equivalents after three years on the road. The reason for this is that electric vehicles have fewer mechanical parts than internal combustion engine vehicles. This is significant because reductions in repairs also mean more time on the road for busy delivery fleets. In a world where downtime is death for fleets, keeping vehicles on the road is critical to meeting the ever-increasing demand for last-mile deliveries.”

New drive for electric mobility: The 4in1 electric axle from Schaeffler

“Schaeffler is focusing on electric mobility.
